ELECTION MATTERS –

• Following appropriate consultation with the Election Commission, the Indian President may change the constituencies.


• The electoral roll's preparation. An individual is not permitted to be enrolled in more than one constituency. If he or she is determined to be mentally ill or not an Indian citizen, they may be disqualified and prohibited from voting.


Any contesting candidate found guilty of any of the following shall be disqualified for a period of 6 years to contest elections after release from jail:



· Encouraging enmity and hatred between classes

· Influencing elections

· Bribery

· Rape or other grave crimes against women

· Spreading religious disharmony

· Practising untouchability

· Importing or exporting prohibited goods

· Offence of consuming or Selling illegal drugs as well as other chemicals

· Engaging in terrorism activity in any form

· Have been imprisoned for at least two years.


Violations pertaining to elections are defined in the RPA 1951

1. Encouraging hatred and enmity.

2. Commit a breach of official duty and provide support to any candidate.

3. Booth capturing and removing ballot papers.

4. Before the conclusion of polling engaged in the sale of liquor within 2 days.

5. Within 48 hours before voting announcing public meetings and involved in causing disturbances.
